Аналогичные предпочтения также могут быть вызваны инъекциями морфина или окситоцина во время первой встречи самцов крыс и «пахучих» самок, указывая на то, что фармакологическая активация опиоидных или окситоциновых рецепторов может сопутствовать также нейрохимическим процессам, связанным с сексуальным удовольствием, которые обычно активируются при сексуальной стимуляции. И наоборот, предпочтения в отношении места или партнера могут блокироваться при использовании опиоидного антагониста налоксона. Соматосенсорный сигнал (шкура грызунов) в паре с сексуальным удовольствием приводит к сексуальному возбуждению у самцов крыс, так что у крыс со сбритым мехом наблюдается серьезный дефицит совокуплений. Мы полагаем, что активация эндогенных опиоидов составляет основу сексуального удовольствия, которая также повышает чувствительность систем гипоталамуса и мезолимбического допамина при наличии сигналов, предвещающих сексуальное удовольствие.
